How to: Alert Bars

Promote your Offer by effectively using your Website Alert Bar

A quick worksheet for planning your next promo or announcement

Alert bars are one of the most effective ways to call attention to limited-time offers, important announcements, or key updates. When done right, they drive users seamlessly to the next step.

Step 1 — Craft a Concise & Compelling Alert Bar

Keep it short. Keep it punchy.
The goal is to hook interest, not explain the entire offer.

Ideal alert bars are:

  • One short sentence (or less)
  • Doesn’t break lines on mobile
  • Includes a call to action

Examples:

  • “Black Friday deals live now! View details ›”
  • “Now hiring therapists—join our team ›”
  • “Limited spring specials! Learn more ›”

Worksheet:
□ Write your alert bar text (max 6–7 words):
_______________________________________________

Step 2 — Link to a Corresponding Landing Point

Lead users to where they expect more info.

You have 2 options:

A) Dedicated promo page
Best for: Larger promotions and Time-sensitive offers, or when you need to provide more offer details.
Offers more flexibility, you can include images or booking steps, embed forms.

B) Existing page
Best for: Single product promos, simpler offers, or direct to conversion links.
Allows for quicker conversion by eliminating steps, but not good for promos that apply to multiple products which don’t appear on the same page.

Worksheet:
□ Will the alert bar link to an existing page or a new one?

□ Target page URL: __________________________

_______________________________________________

Step 3 — Add Details Across Related Pages

Users don’t always land where you expect. If the offer relates to multiple services/products/trips, mention it where they naturally browse.

  • Add a small notice to key product/service pages
  • If the product page uses a custom template, you may need to modify the theme code to support a “promo copy area”
  • If using a dedicated promo page – include a link back to the main promo page on any product pages that apply.

Worksheet:
What pages should reference the offer:
□ Main Offer Page
□ Related Product/Service Pages
□ Featured Blocks / Trip Listing Pages
□ Homepage (if relevant)
□ Other: ____________

_______________________________________________

Step 4 — Clearly Explain How to Act

This is the Key Conversion Path
Reduce friction by stating exactly what to do next.

“To take advantage of this offer, call us at 800-000-0000 by Dec 1.”
— Or —
“Book online using the button below.”
— Or —
“Submit this form to inquire.”

Include links, phone numbers, or buttons directly, not just general guidance!
Don’t make it hard for them.
The path from the alert bar to signing up or paying should be short, clear, and easy.

Worksheet:
□ Is booking via phone, online form, or checkout?

□ What’s the exact next step you want them to take?

□ Deadline or qualification details:

□ CTA button or phone number clearly visible?

Final Checklist
